The Andean mountain cat (Leopardus jacobita) is a small wild cat native to high elevations of the Andes mountains in South America. It is listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List.[1] Its thick coat enables it to survive bitterly cold nights. It mainly hunts rodents, including the endangered chinchillas.
Appearance[]
The Andean mountain cat has Ash-grey fur all over, except for the head and ears, which are silver. There are some black spots on the forelegs, yellowish-brown blotches between the ribs and hip, and up to two narrow, dark rings on the hind limbs a bushy tail with six to nine rings.
