Highlander is a minority cat breed developed in 2004.The feline is a hybrid of the Jungle Curl and Desert Lynx cat breeds. The cat breed did not get its official name until 2005, in order to be distinguished and to gain Championship status in TICA. The Highlander is known for its wildcat look and affectionate temperament.

AppearanceEdit

Highlander cats are a large and very muscular breed with a large sloping forehead, wide-set eyes, a blunt muzzle and a very wide nose for a cat. Their ears are curled back and are a very distinctive feature of the breed, kittens are born with straight ears that after the first two weeks of existence will slighly curl backwards.Highlanders have polydactyl claws which means they have extra toes compared to most cats and sport a naturally short tail that is anywhere between two and six inches long. Female Highlanders weigh between 10 and 14 pounds and males weigh between 15 and 20 pounds. The breed can be either short or long haired and come in a range of colours.

Personality and traitsEdit

The Highlander has a fun loving nature, they are affectionate, loving, high energy, inquistive, confident and love to play. This feline thoroughly enjoys human company and likes to be the centre of attention. Highlanders will never turn down an opportunity to be in water. The cat breed enjoys chase and play and this helps to build its characteristic muscular body. Highlanders have a doglike personality, being friendly and easy to train because of their high intelligence. Highlanders are a strong willed cat that has a hint of typical feline independence. They are well paired with families looking for a mischievous, social and active companion.

The breed gets on with people of all ages and can happily live with other cats and cat tolerant dogs.

Health and UpkeepEdit

The Highlander is a healthy breed of cat with no known health problems. The cat requires minimal grooming, it is reccommended that because of the cats strongwilled and intelligent personality because of their wildcat heritage, that you groom them from kittenhood in order to get them accustomed to grooming throughout their lives.
